Bilgola

Surf Life Saving Club

Bilgola Surf Lifesaving Club is located at Bilgola Beach, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Bilgola Beach is amongst the most beautiful in the world, but can also be one of the most dangerous.

Our job is to ensure that our beach is as safe as possible for all visitors, and that our members and children are educated in surf safety and surf skills.

The purpose of this site is to provide information about our club, and the Surf Lifesaving movement in general, to our members and the public.

Passing of Kevin Berry

It is with deep sadness that we advise of the sudden death of a long standing, Distinguished Service member Kevin Berry.  Kevin passed away this afternoon (31/3/2009)  due to a severe heart attack.  Kevin has been closely associated with the Club and Life Saving for many years in many capacities.  The Club's deepest sympathies are extended to Gabby and the Chase-Berry family.

Passing Of Bob De Groot

It is with deep sadness that we advise of the death of our Long standing member Bob de Groot. Bob obtained his bronze on 11.11.1956 and was an active and keen member. In 1961 Bob was part of a mass rescue which saw him and other members receiving the citation for bravery which was duly presented by the president of Surf Life Saving Australia. Bob was a great benefactor of the club, contributing a large amount of money for the club renovations. In recent years Bob set up the BDG Trust to help secure the future of the club. This trust will supply ongoing funds for the development of lifesaving at Bilgola. Recently the committee passed a motion to name a perpetual trophy after him, from now on the club man of the year will be presented with the Bob de Groot trophy. Bob requested that his ashes be scattered from a Bilgola Surfboat just off Newport Reef (details above).

We are very proud to announce that one of our members Graham Foran was the recipeint of one of Pittwater Councils 2009 Australia Day awards.

Graham Foran was presented with this award for his contribution to the local volunteer surf lifesaving movement. "He pioneered the junior cadet movement aimed at retaining teenage lifesavers between the ages of 14 and 16 at Bilgola Surf Club, which was then adopted by surf clubs across the northern beaches. He has also been involved in coaching young members of the Avalon Junior Rugby League and the Pittwater Baseball Club."
