Surf Life Saving is recognised as the most effective surf rescue service in the world. Surf Sports play a key role in improving lifesaving skills, fitness and motivation.

OVERVIEW:

The first Bilgola surfboat was an old double-ended craft affectionately known as “Irene”. Irene was so named because every time they caught a wave it was “good night Irene”.

Bilgola is one of Australia’s most renowned and successful Surfboat rowing clubs. With fantastic results over the years we continue to dominate the Surfboat rowing scene consistently making finals and medaling at various key events throughout the Surfboat season.

All competitors are lifesaver volunteers and elite sports people who put in many dedicated hours of training. With an extensive competition calendar the rowing community are a close knit team who are highly supportive of each crews and share a strong camaraderie and passion for the sport.

We are always looking to grow our rowing community and welcome any new members, beginners and experienced rowers and sweeps to join Bilgola.
