This years Swim is set down for 14th December 2008, at 11am.

We are constantly working to improve our event and take all suggestions on board. This year we will be introducing Electronic Ankle Tags for simpler more accurate Time / Placing recording. We want you to enjoy the 2008 event as much as the hundreds who attended in 2007 did.

1. The Course: The Course will be basically the same as in previous years, we are trying to have more water safety craft on the course to assist swimmers in navigation, and to have a large more easily sighted buoy at the furthest marker of the course. We will also ensure that the “gate” buoys for the finish are easily located. The course will be approx. 1500 metres.

2. The Categories: There will be six categories, and each category will have medals for both male and female competitors. They are

A….Under 16

B…..16-20 Years

C…..21-34 Years

D…..35-49 Years

E……50- 59 years

F…….60 and above.

3. The Start: The Start will be as the same in previous years. There will be three waves. These are as follows:

START: Yellow Cap Group C (21-34 Years)

+ 3 min Red Cap Groups B & D (16-20 years and 35-49 years)

+ 6 min Green Cap Groups A, E & F (Under 16, 50-59 and 60+)

Men and Women will swim together but results will be in separate categories.

Prize monies for the swim are on the information flyer.

4. Registration: There will be tables set up in the clubhouse hall for registration. They will be clearly marked as to the above categories, the larger categories , viz C & D, will have more than one table.

The entry form is available above - This can be printed and brought along on the day. For electronic entries go to

www.oceanswims.com. Registrations will commence at 8.30 am on the day.

There will be a whiteboard on display at the place of registration with a map of the course and an official at hand to answer any questions. There will be a briefing approximately 1 min prior to the start.

5. Entry Fees: The Entry Fee is the same as last year at $25.00 for the swim. For information about making payments to the Club Ocean Swim account, please see our Contact Us page.

6. The Finish: The Finish will be the same as for previous years, depending on weather and beach conditions on the day. At the finish there will be a number of helpers handing out times. A Swimmer on receipt of their time should then proceed to the recorders , who will now be situated under the clubhouse at the top of the ramp from the beach, and have their time recorded. (Please assist us by ensuring that you do give your time to our recorders, this is our most accurate way of double checking that all swimmers have safely returned to shore. Even if you withdraw from the event after registration or throughout the event, please ensure your name is marked off.) After completion of this stage please proceed to the baebeque and lawn area where water and fruit will be available free of charge.

7. Afterwards: The barbeque will be operating with sausages, steaks and kebabs available for purchase. At Noon our famous Boat Bar will be opened and all are welcome to come in and enjoy this facility. The presentation of awards will take place in the barbeque lawn area (weather permitting) as soon as possible after the last swimmer has completed the course.

8. Parking: In the past Council have not enforced the Pay and Display regulations for vehicles legally parked withing the Bilgola Car Park area. This means they WILL book vehicles that are parked in No Standing/stopping areas. They have also allowed us to use Porter Reserve (The Newport Rugby Grounds) on the left, at the bottom of the hill, at the northern end of Newport for free parking. We envisage that this arrangement will be continued this year and will advise when we have written consent from Council.

9. Shuttle Bus: Pending final confirmation from Council, we will be operating a shuttle bus from Porter Reserve from 9.00 am till 10.40 am and from 1pm to 2.30pm in the afternoon.

10. More Information: If you require any more information or have any further questions please email to : president@bilgolaslsc.org.au

We look forward to seeing you on the day.
